Dylan is currently a Year 12 student at Ku-ring-gai High School. In 2019, when Dylan was in Year 10, he completed the 10-week NSW RFS Secondary Schools Cadet Program that is run at our school. The program involved NSW RFS volunteers from Ku-ring-gai and Cherrybrook brigades coming to our school to provide students with an insight into fire safety and prevention, whilst enabling them to develop practical life skills and a general appreciation of community service and volunteerism.
This experience ignited a passion and Dylan completed his Bush Firefighters (BF) course in October 2020 and is now a qualified firefighter in the NSW Rural Fire Service.
Dylan said, “The RFS program through Ku-ring-gai High School helped assist me through the application process. I have already been on numerous call outs to a variety of incidents and have also been accepted into a new aviation support branch for my district.”
“I was inspired to join the RFS so I can assist and give back to my local community. I have decided that I want to be a full-time firefighter for Fire & Rescue NSW when I graduate from school. The RFS can help me gain experience in the firefighting and emergency services sector. Whilst volunteering within the NSW Rural Fire Service I intend to complete a Certificate III in Public Safety.”
At Ku-ring-gai High School our mission is to promote harmony in diversity, which inspires and challenges students to strive for personal growth and take responsibility for creating a respectful and inclusive learning environment that values high expectations for all. The Learning Sphere of Ku-ring-gai High School includes students' contributions to the broader community and their role in being a positive ambassador of Ku-ring-gai High School.
Great work Dylan!
