Over the past six weeks our Talent Enrichment Program: Sport students have been attending Manly Surf School each Tuesday.
“Few activities in life can match the unusual calm and explosive action surfing offers. When caught in the grip of such incredible natural forces, it's hard not to learn a little bit about life in the process.” - Souf Tihhi
Students from Year 7 to 10, beginners to experienced surfers, have been hitting the waves alongside our Personal Development, Health and Physical Education teachers.
Students have been guided by experienced mentors at Manly Surf School, learning not only the thrill of surfing, but identifying dangers of the ocean, how to spot rips, currents, and sandbanks, where the safest spots are to swim and how to keep themselves safe in the water. Identifying the advantages and disadvantages of rips, how to make good, safe choices when in the water when it comes to wave selection and catching waves.
This opportunity took our students outside of the school to absorb, interact, and be immersed in nature. Encouraging our students to learn new skills, providing a unique, rewarding experience, and allowing lifelong memories to be made.
The expression on our students' faces says it all!
